Julia Kauterman Mom of Cameron
As a registered nurse who has helped care for dozens of babies I felt more than prepared when I had my first baby. He was born 4 weeks early but perfectly healthy and beautiful. When he was around 6 weeks old we noticed he seemed more fussy than happy most days. It got progressively worse over the next couple of months and was truly heartbreaking. How could I (a healthcare professional and postpartum specialist) not know how to help my own baby?
We tried reflux medicine, different sleep schedules, bottles, pacifiers, swaddles, numerous specialists even resorted to trying formula. Nothing was helping and we continued to suffer as a family with no clear answers from the doctors other than “he is a colicky baby”.
I went back to work helping other new moms adjust to life postpartum. All of my tips and tricks seemed to help them and their babies so I felt very defeated when it came to helping my own baby. Eventually we decided to have him evaluated at a pediatric dentist for oral ties. They discovered a posterior tongue tie and recommended having it corrected. I went down a rabbit hole of horror stories on social media about parents who had their baby’s oral tie released and how it made things so much worse. I was at a complete loss not knowing the best route to take. The dentist had also recommended we first see a therapist at Babyease before they proceeded with the release. From the moment I handed my son to Lindsey at Baby ease I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. She knew exactly what to do and how to properly evaluate him while also keeping him happy. Lindsey and Michelle both agreed that my son’s tongue tie was completely functional and having it corrected was not exactly necessary. They also noticed he seemed a bit tense and uncomfortable. They gave me both oral and physical exercises to try at home and also recommended a chiropractor.
After just a couple weeks of these exercises and chiropractor appointments we noticed a huge change in my baby’s behavior. He was happier, sleeping better, moving easier and overall less tense. I seriously couldn’t believe that the solution to our problems was so simple. My only regret is not discovering Babyease months prior.
If a pediatric dentist recommends a procedure to correct your baby’s oral ties then please do yourself a favor and first visit Babyease. You may be able to avoid an unnecessary procedure with just a few simple daily exercises. If you are a new mom and your baby seems colicky, tense, and in pain more often than not then I highly suggest having the experts at Babyease work their magic!
